Mad Men...

Oh, how I love the 50's early 60's.  I wish I could have lived my life then back then.  The styles and the swagger of the people.  But alas I cannot so I live vicariously through the characters on Mad Men (the TV show)...my latest obsession.  For the past month I work out to a new episode daily. (Thank you netflix) I walk and sometimes run on the treadmill drifting away.  I'm super excited Banana Republic has a Mad Men clothing line....swwooonnnn!!!

Here is some eye candy for all the retro clothing lovers out there...self included.

...

Life just moves forward at such an amazingly fast speed.  I cannot wrap my head around the fact it's been 10 years since 9-11.  I can still remember it like yesterday as everyone else in America at that time.  It's been forever etched in our memories.  Eric and I took the kids for a jog today. Spen had ran on in front of us and for a moment Eric and I just reflected about that day.  It's just so utterly sad on so many different levels.  I'll leave it at that.

The jog...it felt good to wear myself out.  I have a love hate relationship with jogging.  My mind loves the freedom running brings...but my body hates doing it.  It was nice to have a partner with me.  I won't lie though, I do like running alone too.  Headphones blasting away in my ears and my mind on nothing but it's thoughts.  I just wish I didn't have so many damn hills in my neighborhood...(I'm lazy).  I liked doing it as a family today.  I swear I love my hubby to death.  I told him last night he's what calms me.  I've been stressed lately, but when Eric tells me everything will be ok...I believe him because I know he will make it ok.  Poor guy worked all day at the Middletown Festival selling popcorn for the cub scouts.  I went up there a few times.  He's such a devoted dad. I felt so bad for Eric though...he had to stand almost all day yesterday.  His legs were so sore last night and running today probably wasn't the nicest thing for them.

{ A few weekend pics }

{  This is a pic from the festival...Spen had changed out of his Cub Scout clothes and was on a mission to play the cake wheel... he won a cake!   Spen deserved it...he sold the most and worked super hard.  Eric received many compliments on how awesome he was yesterday. We are super proud of him!!!}

{ They wanted to put the cub scout booth right beside the chainsaw art...ummmm....not a good idea...Something about small hyper kids and chainsaws make me nervous...thankfully, they were able to get another space }

{ This is how Cedric rolled in styled }

{ This is what Cedric insisted on wearing for our jog...granted he was riding in a stroller...but he HAD to have this hat on...hehehehahahaha....I LOVE it!!! }

I'm excited to go camping next month.  I LOVE the Fall and I love being outdoors in the Fall time.  Hopefully, the weather will be good for it.

{ New Fall nail polish...(Pat On The Black)...it's actually more of a dark purple.  I LOVE IT }

Tomorrow is my nieces birthday.  She will be turning 10.  I remember finding some happiness after 9-11. I also remember how excited I was to hold her and love on her.  She was my sweet baby doll that I could spoil.  I swear I blinked and she grew up.  She was the first grandchild and OMG was that child spoiled.  I loved buying her clothes, shoes anything girly.  I hate I never see her anymore.  Life happens and time slips away from you.  I want to take both my nieces out to get their nails done soon.  They would love that!  (as would I )  It's funny the hubs said we are lucky we do not have a daughter...we'd be broke.  I'd spend all our money on clothes and shoes for her.  He's right...I would...ha.

I decided to take Cedric to open gym classes.  He has been driving me nuts lately.  He needs to burn off some of that energy he has.  So I think a few places around my house have walk in gym time for kids.  I am going to take a break from story hour and try to find something that will work for him and his needs.  Sitting still listening to an old lady read and making a craft isn't his cup of tea.  He needs to run.  Hopefully, the gym thing works out and he likes it.

{Cedric discovered Spen's old cowboy boots and the rest is history as they say.  He LOVES them}

We have so much to do today...sew curtains...cut the grass and wash clothes...so off I go.

Life...

I can't wait to start jogging again!!!  I have a jogging stroller I have yet to break out for it's intended  purchase...so that is a must.  Thankfully, the weather is letting up and the heat wave has subsided.  I love being out doors when the weather is like this!  I can't wait to go camping next month.  I'm also looking forward to hiking.  Hopefully, the weather will be nice for our planned trip.

Current thoughts in random order..

- I really really really do not feel like going to the parent teacher conference tonight at Spen's school.  I don't feel like having to get dressed and all that jazz.  I'd much rather take a shower put my PJs on and curl up with a good movie.  I have to stop by the PTA office and pick up the auction pottery plate for this year.  I have an idea of how I might decorate this years...but it's still up in the air...here is the one I did last year...
(The class finger prints are the white spots)

- Eric did an awesome job at the parent orientation last night for the cubs scouts.  He had to speak in front of a bunch of strangers...and he did great.  I was super proud of him.  He is VERY shy...or shall I say was...he's really not anymore. I learned that first hand last night.  I really do not like public speaking...but it's part of life.

- My parents are celebrating their 36th anniversary today.  They are on their way to the Smokies.  I hope they have a good time!!!  They deserve it.

- Eric is going to plan my B-day party.  I told him I wanted a murder mystery themed dinner party.  Let's see what he comes up with.

- I have the best friends a girl could ask for.  I reached out to a few of them recently and they calmed my nerves and made me  laugh : )  It's nice knowing I have them by my side : )

- I hate talking about politics...but it's scary how bat shit crazy so many in the government are.

- Life has a funny way of coming around full circle.

- and lastly...I have soooo many things I should be doing rather than a pointless update I better go do them....have a great night!!!

This week...

We have A LOT going on this week.  From meetings to house stuff.  The Family festival is this weekend too...I love this time of year...{But}My eyes have been bothering me lately.  Its my stupid allergies.  Hopefully, I will get some relief soon enough...I want to enjoy this season : )

Here are a few pics from this week thus far...

{Cedric looking out the window at the rain and trees...he's OBSESSED with trees}

***Excited***  We actually finished a project...picture ledge painted and hung. Sadly, Eric did all of it...but I did buy it and tell him where to put it...so I'll take some credit ; )  I love how it turned out. It's actually really big...those are large picture frames.  Next project...gallery wall : )  No idea when this will happen.

And I will leave you with a snapshot of my dining room...'tis popcorn season in the cub scouts and it's being housed at my house.   So my whole bottom floor smells of popcorn...not as pleasant as it sounds...

This isn't all of it...yikes...I hope they start selling it fast!!!

Have a great day guys!!!

Loving this weather!!!

This has been a nice calm weekend.  Eric finished my bracelet for me.  It's fun, funky and cheap...

Here is the DIY...

I also got to wear my shirt from Eric's trip...

...Loves it!

The temperatures have dropped and it feels amazing outside!!!  Last night I went for an impromptu walk with a friend and it was a beautiful ending to a great weekend!  We actually saw a group of deer in the neighborhood over from us.

They were so cute!!!

Eric and Spen being off yesterday has thrown me off for this week.  I keep thinking it's Monday.  Poor Eric has a nervous week ahead of him.  He has to host an orientation for the cub scouts at Spens school.  My hat goes off to him for talking to a crowd of strangers.   Anyone who knows my hubby, knows he's a shy guy...but he's really come out of his shell and now is super out going.  The kids have to sell popcorn at the festival this weekend.  I love this season and all it's craft fairs and festivals : )  I hate selling cub scout popcorn on the other hand.  Tis life.
I can't wait until Eric gets home...I'm going to hang my new picture ledge : )  I bought it at a thrift store for $3.88.  We primed it and painted it yesterday.  It's amazing how kids can be attracted to a project.  Spen and his friend were tossing the football around last night.  Of all places the football could land...on my newly painted ledge it did.  (it was in the backyard drying)  After my walk I came home to inspect it to see if it was dry yet, and I discovered a football scuff across it.  Thankfully, it could be fixed.  Eric said Spen ran in as soon as it happened and told him everything.  I love how honest Spen is.

Ok...Cedric is making me leave my post now...so wishing everyone a nice day : )

Making list...

I make lists for everything, everyday.  My mind is like an etch-a-sketch.  If I do not make lists I forget what needs to be done. Sheeshhh...  Tonight I wrote a guest list for Cedric's birthday party.  I tried to cut it back and I'm still coming up with over 40 people.  Ummm...I need to figure out what I'm going to do.  I need to trim the list some more.  I just don't want to hurt people's feelings...but I also don't want too many people at the party.

I worked most of the night designing Cedric's Birthday invites.  I swear I need to become a graphic designer...I LOVE this stuff!!!

Pay no attention to the Nicole Pullen in the background...I marked it to keep it from being lifted.

So...slowly I am marking things off my party list.  I want to enjoy October worry free and be completely ready for the party. Last night I scored comic book/superhero party supplies at of all places walmart.  I went in for milk and came out with some awesome plates, party bags and tables cloths all for just 97 cents each : )  I had never seen anything like them...even online so I was blown away when I saw them, and their price. Totally happy on that purchase!!!  I bought some cute polka-dot balloons today for the party as well from hobby lobby.

I have so much to do this weekend...off to take some allergy meds I go...have a great weekend guys!!!

Getting my craft on...

I'm super excited to start my next set of crafts.  I'm going to have a few friends over and we are going to work on party decorations for Cedric's birthday.  October is a VERY busy month for us, so I want everything ready to go.  I went with my friend today to a local comic book store.  We took the kids.  I wish I had taken my camera with me to capture the looks on their faces.  They were in HEAVEN.  My friend was super awesome and she entertained Cedric while I sifted through the 10 cent comic book bins.  I found some retro (non-valuable) comics.  I plan on making banners out of them. (hence my soon to be craft night)

I LOVE these too...such a cleaver idea...

I plan on cutting these out of black foam core...

I need to pick some letters up to do this...

I have a lot ideas to work on as well.  I need to work on invites and decide on who all I will invite.  I had 40 people at last years and that was A LOT.  I want this years to be smaller.  So I will have to figure out a list and start planning.

Eric comes home tomorrow!!!  I can't wait.  I have missed him terribly...and I missed my sanity. Hehehehhee...these boys are keeping me busy. I have the sweetest hubby.  He has been inches away from NYC all week.  His boss told him to go view the city after work.  I told him he should go site seeing too.  He said he wouldn't...he said he didn't want to see it without me.  So he's going to wait until I can go with him.  He knows I've always wanted to go there.  Such a sweetie with a big heart : )  He also told me they have a plant outside of Paris...maybe there will be some business trips abroad in the works...if so I will definitely be tagging along on those : )

Ok...off to work out...I have 5 stubborn pounds to lose...and then off to sleep...I have been a walking zombie the past week.

I haven't heard this song in ages...

I don't know why I love this song so much.  I guess I love how pure and full of emotion it is.  I think everyone has had that moment in a relationship when they realize it's over.  Songs like this make me appreciate the love I have now. I'm missing Eric...New Jersey is a far place from home.  I know he'll be home soon enough...until then...I'll try to distract myself.

Great Day Alive!!!

I have had a great weekend!!!  Too bad it has come to an end.  I scored some awesome blackberry wine from a local farmers market, had a picnic in the park and then a family day riding go-karts/playing games.  It was nice hanging out with my older brother.  This has been a VERY busy weekend.  Yesterday my friend and I worked on my basement after our outdoor adventures.  I bought some wall decals and we put them up.  I plan on having a craft night to work on Cedric's b-day party decorations this week.  I have a LONG list of craft/projects to do.  I am making the kids a little puppet nook.  So I will have to pick up some funky fabric this week.  I also have a lot of things that need to be painted.

Eric has a trip to New Jersey this week.  I would be a liar if I said I wasn't jealous.  I love travelling and seeing new places.  He will be going back, so I am hoping to join him on one of the trips.  Such a jet setter.  My heart swoons for travel.  Hopefully, I'll be seeing a different view soon enough ; )

I have a mountain of laundry waiting for us to do...so I hope everyone had a great weekend...and fingers crossed fall comes sooner than later this year!!!

I'll leave you with some Fall Fashion eye candy....

So many ideas...so little time...

Ok, I have actually been cooking.  I don't think hell has frozen over just yet.  Needless to say it is just crock pot cooking (I'm lazy) but I have been making some yummy dinners.  So yummy Spencer has asked for seconds.  That's how you know it's good when your 8 year old doesn't freak out having to eat more.

Here are few things I have made so far that were really easy and delicious.

Updates...I discovered a thrift store I'm in love with this week.  I had to deliver a clients photos and saw it on the drive over to her house.  I scored a HUGE picture ledge for $3.88.  I plan on painting it and hanging it this weekend.  It's so awesome.  I'm excited.  I also scored two identical vases for my night stands.  Now to find matching lamps I like.

Yesterday, I met my match with my soon to be 2 year old.  I made a HUGE mistake taking Cedric to story hour with too much energy.  He is going through this phase of independence.  OMG he is too cool for me.  He worked the room like a politician.  Telling everyone hi...patting their legs.  He also LOVES attention and has no fear. The woman in charge told me she had one of those type of little boys.  She said not to worry, he'll end up running a corporation one day.  During the story hour Cedric thought the woman was reading just to him...and felt the need to get as close to her and show her EVERY cool item he thought she should see to impress her....all while she was READING to the group.  He then proceeded to steal her animals off her display board and show them to her and the rest of the group.  It was really comical looking back...at the time not so much.  He was so funny and so sure of himself.  I LOVE that he has confidence.  It was funny, the woman asked if any of the kids could point out a cow from the choice of animals she had on her board.  All the other kids looked like deer in headlights...not my child...he hops off his chair and proudly walks up to her board and says cow...all while pointing to a pig...hehhehehehehehahahahahaa.  In the short 45 minutes while we were there he tried to escape 3 times, take off with someone else's stroller once, and greet every person there at least once.  I had to laugh when he grabbed his backpack...put it on the front of his chest...he doesn't know how to properly put it on yet and tell everyone bye bye while he jetted out of the door.  We hadn't even done the craft yet.  So I brought him back to do our craft, which consisted of him wanting to play with the scissors only.  We soon left...we did not wait around to get our sticker.  While walking out to the car...I'm sure I looked a hot mess.  I had entered the story hour a cool, calm and collected mom.  I exited a sweaty, half dazed, emotionally and physically drained mommy.  I wanted to cry leaving...not because I was mad or upset...I was just that tired and wore out.  I then looked down at my sweet energetic little guy holding my hand and had to laugh.  He was smiling ear to ear.  He didn't do anything wrong...he was just being Cedric.  The entertainer...maybe I should have chosen a different name for him?   He had the greatest time and he was so pleased with himself.  He ended up falling asleep in the car.  All his entertaining wore him out.  So I now have a new strategy.  I plan on having him play A LOT before the next story hour.  Hopefully, wear him out a little so he won't have so much stored energy.  Fingers crossed it works.

Cedric is also entering into the phase of hurting himself NON-STOP.  Yesterday alone he busted his lip and got a huge bruise on his forehead.  He is so busy...and has no fear so he is the kid that is covered in bruises and looks like pig pen.  Hehehehehee.  I plan on buying him a big wheel today.  He needs to work his energy out while seated.  Running right now is not working out so well for him.   He keeps falling.  I also want to buy him a new rug for his play room.  Target has an adorable alphabet rug for $30.

Source: target.com via Nicole on Pinterest

Cedric LOVED the story hour rug so I thought this would be fun for him and he can learn his alphabet.  He now thinks he can read.  It's so cute and funny.  If he sees letters, he yells A,E, I out.  No idea why those letters.  But he thinks he's reading.  He also LOVES books.  He'll grab a book and climb into his little chair and pretend to read while pointing at words.  I LOVE IT!!!

Ok...off to the grocery.  Have a great day guys!

Being true to one self...(warning a rant post)

It's funny when realizations come to you in the fleeting moments of being a parent.  It's like a lightening bolt that infiltrates your mind and you realize that's a great moment to make a point, teach a life lesson and spread your beliefs.  I was listening to Lady Gaga in the car with Spencer today. Born This Way was playing.  My 8 year old is way wise beyond his years, so I can always level with him.  He asked me what the song was about and I broke it down for him.  Then I flipped it and let him know why it's so important to be who you are.  It seems more and more of the ugliness of society is creeping in our doors.  From commercials to horrid TV shows. Last year my son came home telling me his friends had Jordans and he had no idea why they were so 'special" of a shoe.  He said it's just someones name...I laughed and loved his pure spirit.  There is a really ugly image out there that society is trying to sell and I don't want my kids buying.  I live in suburbia.  I love my house and my neighbors, but I hate all the keeping up with the Joneses.
keeping up with the joneses cartoons, keeping up with the joneses cartoon, keeping up with the joneses picture, keeping up with the joneses pictures, keeping up with the joneses image, keeping up with the joneses images, keeping up with the joneses illustration, keeping up with the joneses illustrations

 I totally get wanting nice things...dressing nice and wanting to feel good about your accomplishments.  But so many people go way beyond that...  It's amazing how surreal it is. They want to obtain that "image"  the image that doesn't exists.  People are so consumed with image and wants they don't see the bigger picture. People think that what materials they give their kids are way more important than time spent with them.   They blow money on an image when they should be paying their bills, and it's all fake.  I sometimes feel like I'm trapped in a bad chapter of Peyton Place.  Where all the wives are pumped full of antidepressants and the husbands "work" all week only to disappear when real parenting is needed.  Eric and I are amazed with how weird and ass backwards most the people are around here.  Marriages aren't teamwork... a lot of the wives have jumped back from the women's right movement and are slaves to their families. It's funny I get "judged" because my husband cooks and does the laundry most of the time. I'm a stay at home mom.   I totally get dedicating your life for your family. But I don't get or care what school your child attends, what sport your child plays, or what job your husband does...what type of person are you?   That's the question I feel like asking some of the women I come into contact with.  I get stares when I wear what I want and do my hair how I like.  I'm a pretty modest person so it's comical to see how just being different at all gets the attention it does.   I got daggers when I wore a pro Obama t-shirt around my son's school.  One would have thought I had leprosy.  I am who I am...always will be...so quoting Ron Whitehead from  my youth pertaining to BTGOG....

I Will Not Bow Down America

I have a feeling we will be moving sometime in the future...and I hope my children don't get consumed with the image that is knocking at our front door.

If I can say anything...be real...

Movie Night...

It's been ages since I went to a movie...ok...let me rephrase that...ages since I went out on a date to the movies. I think I was pregnant the last time...and ummm...my baby is almost two.  It was nice to go out with Eric and be silly.  Although, we did go to Lowes and return some air vent registers on the way home...yeah...that's a super hot way to end a date..heheheee.

I was happy to wear my new cute dress...

I love it!!!  Super comfy and fun.  I actually curled my hair...usually it's thrown up in my mom ponytail and did my makeup for tonight.  We had a good time at the movies.

Here are pics of us being silly in the Jeep...

Eric being sweet.

I can't wait to get my braces off!!!

Now back to reality...I have laundry to do, dishes and cleaning to be done.  But it was a nice evening out.  Next week we do the State Fair!!! {wish me luck}
